Meiloci are thrilled to be shortlisted for the Landscape Institute Excellence in Community Engagement award for our work on Penzance Promenade!
We spoke to over 450 local people, from all walks of life, of all ages from 3 to 93. People of all abilities, shapes, sizes, with a multitude of wants and needs attended creative workshops, exhibitions and events to help us recreate the Promenade.
What people need, especially now and following the pandemic, are quality open spaces that are accessible, and offer a multitude of uses for all people, all ages and abilities, close to home. People need to feel connected to nature, and to a community, and to feel a sense of ownership, connection and pride in that place, whether it is a tiny pocket park or a big open public realm.
The Promenade now has a strong contemporary and community use – which is seen by the happy co-existence of people, from disabled users, parents with buggies, alongside runners and daily walkers, dogs, skateboarders and Parkour enthusiasts.
